New Elastomer exceeds API-16A Testing Requirements

Houston, Texas, October 1, 2013 – Freudenberg Oil & Gas Technologies announced today that it has developed new NBR elastomer compounds that have been incorporated into its spherical elements and ram block product offerings.

“Our new NBR compound was used in our 13 5/8 inch Spherical Element and was tested according to API 16A for BOP elastomer components,” said Richard T. Schmidt, President and CEO of the company. “Initial results – witnessed by a third party – have this 13 5/8 inch element exceeding the fatigue test and complete shut off test cycle requirements of the API 16A standard.”

Attendees at the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition of the Society for Petroleum Engineers in New Orleans, Louisiana can stop by booth 2909 and see a tested spherical element for themselves.

Freudenberg Oil & Gas Technologies established its 14,000 square foot Materials Development & Product Testing Lab in Houston, Texas in early 2012. This lab enables development – and verification – of a nearly unlimited range of sealing solutions. Capabilities of the facility include: mixing custom rubber recipes, product test bunker, test labs for: sour gas, HPHT, thermal cycling, and material properties.
